FAQs

General Questions

Is Trail Butter the most delicious nut butter that ever existed?

Open tab

100% Yes. :)

What is a nut butter blend?

Open tab

Why have a single nut butter when you can have 2 or 3 in 1? We’ve combined your favorite nut butters and real-food ingredients to create a snack full of flavor and packed with nutrition to keep you going on or off the trail.

How should I eat this stuff?

Open tab

Trail Butter is delicious by itself, straight from the flexible pouch or single serve packet. It is a great option for instant whole-food nutrition while on a long hike or trail run. It's great spread on a piece of toast. Enjoy it on fresh fruit. Try it on a cracker. Kids like it on celery, a new spin on "ants on a log." Make a sandwich and call it a "TB and J."

Does Trail Butter require stirring at room temperature?

Open tab

It shouldn't. We add a vegetable based emulsifier to prevent ingredient separation. However, a little separation may occur as it is an all-natural product.

What about cold temperatures? Do I need to knead?

Open tab

Thanks to heart-healthy temperatures, Trail Butter nut butters are winter-friendly! You will want to knead your packet a bit any time of year to ensure you get an even distribution of flavors (those hits of sea salt - yum!) that make Trail Butter blends as tasty as they are!

What is the shelf life of Trail Butter?

Open tab

Unopened, we have established an 18 month shelf life on the 4.5oz Big Squeeze pouches and a 2 YEAR shelf life on our 1.15oz Lil' Squeeze single serves. After opening a Big Squeeze, we recommend that you consume within 2-3 months. Single-serve pouches should be consumed right away as they are not re-sealable.

Does Trail Butter require refrigeration after opening?

Open tab

The short answer is no, it does not. We use only roasted nuts and dried ingredients. To maximize freshness or store longer than 2-3 months, it can be refrigerated. You'll just need to warm to room temperature before it's spreadable again.

Nutrition and Ingredients

I have a dietary restriction. Can I eat Trail Butter?

Open tab

Nut allergies: Trail Butter contains roasted almonds as the base for all flavors as well as cashews in some.

Vegan: Our Maple Sea Salt Nut Butter Blend is currently our only vegan flavor. The other flavors use clover honey and are therefore not strictly vegan.

Paleo-friendly: Our use of sunflower lecithin (a natural, plant-based emulsifier) means that Trail Butter cannot be certified Paleo, but it does meet all other Paleo diet requirements.

Dairy-free: Our Maple Sea Salt blend is dairy free. Dark Chocolate & Coffee as well as Original Trail Mix contain chocolate that is itself dairy-free but made in a facility that processes milk chocolate as well, meaning there’s a small chance they contain dairy.

Trail Butter is also Soy-Free and Vegetarian.

I noticed it says 'Gluten Free' on the front of the Trail Butter packages. Does that mean it's certified Gluten Free and ok to eat if I have Celiac's?

Open tab

Trail Butter is not certified Gluten Free. We know that our customer base is super health-conscious and that many follow diets such as Whole 30 or are paleo. Many of our customers choose to eliminate gluten because of non-celiac related issues and we wanted to let them know up front that our product meets those needs, which regulations allow. For more visit the  FDA Gluten Free Labeling Guidelines. It's important to note that only products containing the official gluten free certification symbol are totally safe for those with celiac disease. Although we are striving for gluten free certification and looking for facilities to meet those requirements, we are not there yet.

Does Trail Butter contain refined sugars or High Fructose Corn Syrup?

Open tab

Of course not! Trail Butter is a 100% natural product sweetened only with clover honey and other natural sweeteners depending on flavor.

Are there any other additives, supplements or sneaky ingredients in Trail Butter?

Open tab

Nothing but real ingredients and our love!

How many calories does a serving of Trail Butter contain? And fat?

Open tab

A standard 2 tablespoon serving is approximately 190-200 calories. It varies slightly between flavors and package type. Each flavor contains about 15 grams of fat per serving. It's the good kind of fat, that your body needs to remain balanced. None of our flavors contain "trans fats."

The 4.5 oz pouches contain 760 calories per pouch.

When should I eat Trail Butter to maximize performance?

Open tab

Trail Butter was crafted to give people at various activity levels sustained energy throughout their workout, race or day-to-day life. Each body is different, but you can use Trail Butter as pre-  or post-workout snack or eat it during long endurance activities such as running or cycling.

Trail Butter also makes for a great on-the-go option during those busy days when you can’t stop for a full meal but need whole-food energy in a crunch.
